Job Summary:
The Storyboard Artist is responsible for creating visual representations of the narrative and action sequences of a film or television production. They collaborate closely with the Director, Cinematographer, and Art Department to translate script requirements into detailed storyboards that effectively communicate the intended visuals and storytelling elements of the project.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Create high-quality, hand-drawn or digital storyboards that reflect the Director's vision and effectively convey the narrative, composition, and camera movement for each scene.
2. Collaborate with the Director, Cinematographer, and Art Department to understand the project's visual style, mood, and overall artistic direction.
3. Interpret written scripts or verbal instructions to develop storyboards that capture the desired emotions, pacing, and key story beats.
4. Efficiently manage time and meet deadlines while producing accurate and aesthetically pleasing storyboards.
5. Review and incorporate feedback from the Director and other stakeholders into the storyboards, ensuring that changes are accurately implemented.
6. Stay abreast of industry trends and techniques to continuously improve artistic skills and contribute innovative ideas to enhance the overall production.
7. Maintain organized files and documentation of storyboards, ensuring they are easily accessible for reference by the production team.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Proven experience as a Storyboard Artist in the film, television, or animation industry.
2. Exceptional artistic and drawing skills with the ability to accurately depict characters, scenes, and action sequences.
3. Proficient in using industry-standard software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, or other digital drawing tools.
4. Strong understanding of composition, perspective, lighting, and camera angles to effectively convey mood and storytelling elements.
5. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively work with the Director, Cinematographer, and Art Department to translate their vision into visual storyboards.
6. Ability to quickly comprehend and interpret written scripts or verbal instructions to create accurate storyboards.
7. Attention to detail and ability to capture the essence of characters and scenes while maintaining consistency throughout the storyboards.
8. Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks to meet tight deadlines.
9. Solid organizational skills to maintain a well-structured file system for easy retrieval and reference of storyboards.
10. Continuous drive for self-improvement, staying updated with industry trends, and adopting new techniques to enhance artistic skills.
